5 Top Ethereum Games You Can Play Right now
With Ethereum reaching record highs this past month, the focus has shifted towards the many practical uses of Ethereum technology. Using Smart Contracts to encrypt data transactions, one of the most popular applications are video games.
Scanning the State of the DApps’ games category, it’s easy to see dozens, if not hundreds, of active video game projects under way. Unless you’re into shoddy gambling games, it’s safe to say the majority of the projects may not be worth your Ether right now. However there are many promising projects happening that put a lot of excitement in the Ethereum network.
For the browser-based games, make sure you’ve downloaded and setup MetaMask for ETH in-game transfers.
As of January 2018, here are the top 5 Ethereum-based video games you can play today.
CryptoKitties
Easily the most successful DApps on the Ethereum network. This blockchain-based collectible game allows players to adopt, raise, breed, and trade virtual cats. Dubbed “cryptocollectibles”, each adopted virtual cat is one-of-a-kind and is completely yours to own. Owning two cats allows you the opportunity o breed another cat, too.
The popularity of CryptoKitties exploded in December 2017, instantly congesting the Ethereum network. Transactions reached an all-time high, which subsequently slowed it down significantly. And apparently, people couldn’t get enough of buying the little virtual cats up, reaching upwards to $12 million in revenue last month. As of December 2, the high selling cat was sold for 246.9255 ETH — roughly $117,712 USD at the time of selling.

Winning battles scores XP and medals. You can keep your army dominant by training new soldiers, tanks, drones, and more. Players can put their army up for sale on the country marketplace. With only 100 countries, only 100 players can gain access to the limited selection.
In the first 10 days, more than 30 armies and 1,800 soldiers have been purchased, with over 130 battles taken place. KryptoWar is well on it’s way to victory.

Ethermon
The cleverly named Ethermon combines — you guessed it — Pokemon, with the Ethereum network. Much like Pokemon and CryptoKitties, this game lets you to collect unique Ethermon, by capturing, buying and evolve them. Eventually, Ethermon will open up trading and battles against one another, which would add a pretty unique depth to the game.
